The Building Teen/Parent Seminar is designed to assist parents and teens in the unknown waters of adolescence using Biblical principles. This seminar is so much more than another parenting class. We encourage both the teen and the parent to attend the seminar.
The four one-hour sessions are designed to help the parent and the teen understand exactly what is going on inside of a teenager. Upon gaining this understanding we offer other tools to help the teenager flow safely into adulthood with their faith intact.
Who would benefit from this seminar?
*Any parent who has a child 8 years old and up
*Teenagers (11 years old and up)
*Anyone who works with youth
Session Topics:
- Understanding Teenagers
You will gain a better understanding of the different developmental stages a teen faces. Knowing these stages the teen, parents, and other adults will be able to work together so the teen can safely go through this critical time in their life.
- Parenting Styles
This session will help you understand the different parenting styles and the effects each one has on a teenager. Using the wrong parenting style, a parent can push their child away from the very person they want them to become.
- Working Together
This session will teach the teen and the parent how to work together instead of against each other. It will teach them how to talk about the different life issues so the teen is able to apply it to their own life. It will also give you ideas on how to reach out into the community as a family.
- Effective Communication
Teens are entering a stage in their life where they want to be talked-with, not talked-at. This session will teach you a great communication model that will keep communication open between the teen and the parent. It will also help the teen learn how to make good choices and understand where those choices lead. This model is to be used when dealing with a specific issue. This model is great for improving your communication with anyone.
